Image Roundup: DIY Furniture Updates

I am really really missing working on my furniture so I am doing a Pinterest round up from my craft and furniture board today to ease me through my sorrows. I love using Pinterest because it makes my life so much easier and frees up a lot of memory on my computer (since I don't have to save all the things I like). Check out my House Stuff board and my Crafts board and tell me what you think! Hopefully when I'm back in Ohio I can get back to work (and I still may be able to convince my mother to let me at her furniture).
DIY Bar Stools
I would love to dress my simple bar stools up a bit with fabric and paint or stain
probably the best before and after i've seen
this is possibly my favorite before-and-after I have ever seen... I love everything about their final product!
"Spray paint" upholstery with Tulip fabric spray paint! Get out of here!
this just blows my mind... fabric spray paint!!
DIY Book page table with Mod Podge
mod podged, book page covered table. brilliant.
Mod Podge lace onto front then paint over.
mod podged lace fronts, and then painted over. I must try this

Where To, Mademoiselle?

Nothing gets me quite as excited as buying new books, and let me tell you, I don't hold back on pleasuring myself this way. This past spring I bought 9 or 10 new hand-held expeditions, including The Hunger Games Trilogy, TheFountainhead, Atlas Shrugged, Anthem, Partials, and a number of poetry compilations (Robert Frost, JackKerouac...). This summer I have already obtained 4 new books. Woohoo! The Hobbit (which I have already finished, for the second time), TheSilmarillion, The Martian Chronicles, and a T.S. Eliot compilation.

If this needs spelled out any plainer, then I shall do so now: I have varying interests. There. I said it. Generally in life, I consider myself a sucker for the classics: I love Jane Austen and even took a course over her literary works, I am enthralled by Monet, and my favorite color for decoration is what I call Baroque Blue. I enjoy reading the old Scottish writings of Burns, and the quietly discontenting Dickinson. However, as you can see from above, I also have a taste for post-apocalyptic and revolutionary tales. They just get me.

But what I always want to know is what else can I read? If you know of some great books that would fit in or not fit in with my short lists above, please share!

'It is said that the Hornburg has never fallen to assault,' said Théoden; but now my heart is doubtful. The world changes, and all that once was strong now proves unsure. How shall any tower withstand such numbers and such reckless hate?

What are you reading?

The Southernmost Point

Yesterday we took a trip down to Key West. The whole drive was beautiful and quite the experience. We didn't get to do too much, but we played on the beach, so what else matters? After reading Baseball, Apple Pie and Driving Until You're Lost yesterday by Evan Rowland, I was thinking about what it means to escape. For me it's a good book, because even traveling isn't wholly an escape to me since every experience I have is crucial to staying creative.

So here is the photo evidence:

I spent much of the day reading. What's more of an escape than feeling as though your on the beaches of a completely different world?

Sexy Books

Well today is another day for poems, my friends. These are a few that I have written in the past month and are mostly about relationships and self-reflection. I mostly write when I am having weak moments, so these really don't represent my every day state of mind. Writing really is a great outlet for me when I feel overwhelmed and hopefully they will help you too. Please let me know what you think!

I Only Need Your Love Because I Gave You All of Mine

I cannot know
what you need now,
so I give you
time.
What bigger gift
could a person
give?
Yet it scares you more.
You need to know
that which scares you
(my emptiness)
comes only from being
so full
I had to dump my purse.
Now you have
my coins,
and instead of refilling me
you run.

Can I Kiss You?

I should have said yes
when you asked
so innocent and delicate
what held me back
I had never been asked before
only pressed
by any parting lips
whose fancy may have been
what was so wrong
that I said no
not now
not any day
because I ruined your
beautiful question
of can my lips
touch yours

My Robin

I walked right along
and so also did he
I thought that the robin
was walking with me
but it seemed when I moved
so also must he
until I moved too much
to stay comfortably
then he fluttered away
my robin from me.

#6

How do I look when I'm mad?
Only you'd really know.
Do I look like a child,
a girl who can't have her way
or do I just look tired
of arguing all the same?
What about when I'm depressed?
Are my eyes all puffy
after hours of crying
and your gentle hand on my back
and soft song over my fears?

On the Same Page

Your hand is around
the top of my hip
but you're grabbing
me like a book.
Flinging open the cover
and stealing all
the words, the ideas,
the big picture
of my pages.
You finger the leafs
with soaking, trembling hands
that rush
to the corners
as you smile
at me trembling too.
Your eyes melt
the print with speed
as you consume
every breath
that ever held air
in my plot.
I am used and beaten
and tattered
but your body knows
that inside of me
is still
the same story.

About poetry: A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. - Robert Frost
